Maragogype is one of the rarest Hawaiian coffees, but has long been one of our favorites. Why it’s so unusual: This variety yields about half the beans as the more common Typica, so few Kona farmers plant it. We're grateful for the ones who do.

Maragogype (also known as Maragogipe) has the largest beans of any Coffea arabica cultivar. A bean can stretch across the diameter of a penny. Its large size and low density makes it tricky to roast, but with the right profile, it's a beautiful coffee.

From Coffee Review (July 2024):

"Balanced, richly sweet, complex. Chocolate fudge, narcissus, date, cedar, lemon balm in aroma and cup. Sparkling acidity; very full, syrupy mouthfeel. The resonant finish centers around notes of chocolate fudge and narcissus with undertones of date."
